- So what’s the deal with the name?
- I wanted to name the blog something that would portray what I was trying to highlight without sounding like a PhD thesis. After many agonizing hours of deliberation (seriously, I didn’t struggle this hard to name my own kid), I came up with “Give Us A Twirl,” after the incident where Eugenie Bouchard was famous asked, after destroying her opponent in the Australian Open, if she could oblige the (male) reporter and “give us a twirl and tell us about your outfit.” Bouchard was visibly embarrassed by his request. To me, this incident is a perfect microcosm of sexism against women in sports and thus, the perfect name for my little corner of the World Wide Web.
- Is sexism in sports really something that we need to dedicate all this time and energy to discussing?
- Yes. As long as it exists, it needs to be discussed.
